420 Day
Have you ever smelled something weird while you are walking down the street? That strange odor could be marijuana (we usually call it ‘weed’). Smoking weed is a kind of common thing in Vancouver’s culture. It is illegal, but actually nobody cares. You can easily see someone who smokes weed in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery. However, there is one special day that you can see almost 5,000 people gathering together and smoking weed. It is a nice chance to experience new culture. Don’t be scared, just enjoy.
Origin
There are many urban myths about the origin of this day. However, the true origin is this one. 1971, there were group of students who smoke weed. They usually got together when the school finished. It was 4:20 p.m. After that, they secretly called marijuana as 420, so other people are hard to notice their meaning. It became popular, and it is the origin of the marijuana day.
When and Where
When is pretty obvious because I mentioned more than twice in this blog, and look at the name of this special day. 420. It starts at April 20 4:20 p.m. And pot (another name for marijuana) smokers smoke in one public place, Art Gallery.
